On September 22nd, Inter Miami traveled up north to St. Petersburg to play against the Tampa Bay Rowdies for a pre-season game. This game was meant to be a simple preseason game, with little to no expectations and only a friendly match between two teams that want to prepare for their upcoming seasons.
However, Inter Miami were greeted by hundreds of fans that traveled north to watch their team. For the entire 90 minutes, fans chanted and sang in Spanish and English. They planted banners along their supporter section and waved flags to the sound of banging drums and cymbals.
The Inter Miami faithful overpowered the local Rowdies' fans, and the effect was felt on the field by the two teams. Inter Miami won the game 1-0, thanks to a goal by rookie forward Robbie Robinson in the 31st minute. This was Inter Miami's first win in franchise history, and gave them a solid form heading into the first week of their MLS season.
